FAQs

Individual kennel runs are approximately 4' x 20' and offer indoor-outdoor access during the day. The runs are heated or air conditioned depending upon the weather. Calming and soothing music is played during the day. A prescreened doggie movie is played each night

Your dog will be exercised individually in a spacious exercise run that is approximately 16' x 24'. The dog(s) are exercised for a minimum of one half hour in the morning and one half hour in the afternoon (longer depending upon the number of boarders).

Our facility is supervised 24 hours a day.

Bedding
Starr Kennels
We will provide a “cot style” bed for your pet which offers comfort and support especially for pets with tender joints and muscles. You may also bring a blanket from home or we will provide a soft warm blanket for your pet. Please make sure that any items brought are washable and will not be missed if they are damaged or destroyed.

Food

Starr Kennels provides a nutritionally balanced, high quality, lamb and rice kibble. You are also welcome to bring your dog's kibble at no additional charge. We request that you provide dry dog food in a container with a tightly fitting lid.

Starr Kennels would like to recommend that you limit the amount of food you give your dog on the day it comes to stay with us, since most dogs get quite excited about coming to stay at our pet care facility. Likewise, you should limit the amount of food and water you give your dog for the first hour or two after your dog arrives home. This will allow your dog plenty of time to settle down before feeding.

Medication
If your dog requires medication, our staff will administer doses according to veterinary instructions. Medications should be provided in the original package with the directions clearly labeled. There is no additional charge to administer medications.

Thinking about a Petsitter?

What to consider when choosing quality care for your pet

We at Starr Kennels strive to provide the best in pet care and know that there are alternative options to boarding facilities for pet owners. That could be a family member, neighbor, friend, or a pet sitter that comes to your house. This can pose problems for certain pets, as such we feel that Starr Kennels can provide the quality care that your pet deserves.

Some Situations to Consider

Usually when you hire a pet sitter or a neighbor they only come to your house once or twice a day. This will leave your pet alone for almost 22-23 hours a day. When they are at your home there is usually a limit to the amount of time that they will spend with your pet on exercise, interaction, and observation. At this time your pet should receive even more attention on these matters when you are away. We have trained, dedicated, loving staff from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. everyday. Along with our survelance cameras  that view your pet 24 hours a day even while it is sleeping. We also have a veterinarian we can contact 24 hours a day if need be. All of this adds up to peace of mind for you while your away.

Pets behavior can change when their owner is away and they have been left alone. Sometimes this will cause them to have severe strees, separation anxiety, and boredom. This can lead to your pet destroying the house, yard, and belongings. We at Starr Kennels strive to make our facility a strees free environment for your pet by offering activities to keep them busy and hands on attention to reasurre them that they are safe and loved.

If you have multiple pets in your house this can also create more problems for your sitter. They will be even more limited on the time that they spend with each of your animals. At Starr Kennels our staff is trained to take care of many animals at a time and make sure that they are all happy and healthy.

What if there is an emergency at your home while you are away? A pipe breaks and water is flooding your home, what if something catches on fire?  Your pet will have no way to get out. What if there is a natural disaster like an earthquake, a flood, or the power goes out. How is your pet sitter going to get to your pets? At Starr Kennels there is always someone here to take care of your pet in an emergency. Our facilities are equiped with smoke detection and a backup generator and we have evacuation plans in place should the need arise. All of this should leave you at ease while your pet is at our facility.

We understand that some pet owners choose pet sitters and other alternatives because of cost. You should keep in mind that quality care is sometimes higher priced as it is not easily found and maintained. Starr Kennels is dedicated to giving your pet the quality care that it deserves through our highly trained staff and our modern facilities.

We hope that you consider all of these factors when choosing pet care for your beloved companion. We know that it is a big leap of faith to leave your pet at our facility, but we want to asure you that your pet will be treated as one of the family.
